Virgin Australia plans to expand its international network in 2012, with opportunities in Asia through northern Australia airports, giving travellers more choice. These options being considered are dependent on the final approval of the alliance with Singapore Airlines, Centre for Aviation reported. “So while there are plans on the table, we obviously can't implement them or, for that matter discuss them, until we have permission to do so and that requires ACCC (Australian Competition & Consumer Commission) approval," Virgin chief executive John Borghetti said. Mr Borghetti stated much of the airline's international growth depends on the progressions of relationships with joint venture partners, including Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian and Etihad. Virgin Australia’s international airline V Australia began code share on Hawaiian operated flights between Australia and the Hawaiian Islands on 31 October 2011. Expanded codesharing agreement on flights between the United States and Australia also commenced at the start of this month. The airline is moving towards all domestic and international businesses operating under the Virgin Australia brand by the end of the year. |
