The Blue Canyon Club

Surrounded by freshwater lakes and in harmony with the earth, the Canyon Course brilliantly features natural hazards, towering trees, multiple tees, rolling fairways, long carries, narrow landing areas and well-guarded slick Bermuda Tiffdwarf greens. As its name “Canyon” suggests the holes are built along canyon edges with undulating fairways and greens.

The course also has an intriguing mix of narrow tree-lined fairways requiring accurate tee shots and a number of doglegs demand precise shot making together with a selection of demanding Par 3s and large, fast, and very true greens. Players have found that each and every one of the 18 holes has its own characteristic which makes it memorable for them.

The signature hole:
Bearing the proud signature of natural canyons: Holes 13, 14, and 17 are significant as they are built on existing canyon structures that suddenly plunge into deep waters. Hole 13, christened "The Tiger Hole" after Tiger Woods' supreme "one-on" shot across 270 yards, past the great canyon from the black tee to the green, is our hole of legends. Our supermodel of a hole, number 14, has won the hearts of many players and been the dramatic backdrop to many ecstatic holes-in-one. Hole 17, the longest par-3 in Thailand, and awarded "Top 500 Best Holes in the World", is a quiet beauty that seldom yields to a golfer's game, but occasionally allows for a hole-in-one.

THE GOLF & SPA PARADISE PAR EXCELLENCE

The legendary Blue Canyon Country Club in Phuket, Thailand is ranked by international media as one of the most prestigious golfing establishments in the region. Cradled in a 720-acre verdant valley against a magnificent backdrop of the majestic Phang Nga mountains and the Andaman Sea, Blue Canyon offers two award-winning championship golf courses, "The Canyon" built in 1991 and "The Lakes" in 1999, complete with boutique spa resort and luxurious clubhouse facilities.

In 1988, Yoshikazu Kato, one of Japan's most prolific golf course architects started developing the site, originally an abandoned tin mine flanked by rubber plantations. Both courses were created around existing canyons and woodlands, with minimal interruption to the natural landscape and wildlife. The property is a masterpiece of design characterised by spectacular and daunting natural hazards including numerous taunting water features accentuated by towering trees to challenge golfers of all levels.

The Blue Canyon Country Club is the one and only three-time host of the Johnnie Walker Classic.

'We are honored & humbled to be one amongst this year's HAPA winners, since opening Red Mountain Golf Club in the beginning of 2008 we have strived to provide a special golfing experience to golfers that travel to Phuket from all around the globe. This is a fantastic start to this year's high season & 2012 which we would like to share with all of our guests, team & supporters.'

Red Mountain Golf Course

Winding its way through a truly dramatic 1400 rai former tin mine site in the heart of Phuket, Red Mountain is surely one of Asia's most exciting new courses. The course has been cleverly routed to take advantage of a huge variety of landforms and dizzying elevation changes. Scars left from the tin mine era have been imaginatively incorporated into the overall scheme, creating a unique character at the same time as establishing an indelible link with an important era in the Island's past.

Designer Jon Morrow and co-designer Al Tikkanen, have created a highly strategic and challenging 6,900 yard lay out to complement the shorter and gentler old Loch Palm Course. While the course is undoubtedly challenging, numerous risk and reward options create a fun playing environment, an exhilarating test of golf and a breathtaking scenic tour around a course destined to become a golfing landmark in the region.

Loch Palm Golf Club

Loch Palm is described as "balancing challenge and fairness." The greens are maintained at playable speeds that are never superfast, thus encouraging visiting golfers to return.

Nevertheless, there are plenty of testing carries across water and close encounters with impenetrable jungle. Placed neatly within a cordon of hills, the flight of most shots can be easily tracked through the air against a background of forest or jungle.

Loch Palm Golf Course

Swift changes in terrain provide great variety. Three new holes were added in 2004 as part of an upgrade that increased tee space, enlarged water features and improved landscaping, making the course even better. Water comes into play on 13 holes and there are 67 bunkers. Five kiosks dot the course. Varieties of Zoysia grass have been used on the fairways and greens, with Seashore Paspalum on the tees.

There are 300 memberships, with a few taken by corporations, and 250 caddies. Golf carts are available. Because of Loch Palm's popularity, booking a tee time is recommended. A much-anticipated second course is also being carved from the surrounding hills. Due to open in 2006, it will be around 7,000 yards and predictions are that it will make stunning use of outstanding natural features and be "unlike any other in Thailand."

Location

Virtually at the island's center, Loch Palm is well-placed for golfers coming from every direction. About 1400 stocky Oil Palms, planted along a route around a large lake and through hill country, give the course a character and charm of its own.

Phuket Country Club

Phuket Country Club established in 1989, is the first and one of the finest golf courses built in Phuket, and lies on a reclaimed tin mine site. The stunning beauty and elegance of the course, together with the typical Thai charm and hospitality will make your golfing joyful and memorable. A 9 hole course is also available here.

Early morning or late afternoon is often the most idealic time of day for golfers unused to a tropical climate. However it's common to hire multiple caddies (almost always young ladies), and one of them can be assigned parasol duties. Remember to use your sunblock, wear light-coloured clothing that breathes, and drink lots of fluids.

Old Course

OLD COURSE provides a strenuous resort 18-hole, 6483 yards, par 72 golf game.

Hole #10, 557 yards par 5, is one of the most unusual hole you will find anywhere; a dog-leg right that snakes around an enormous lake and reachable in one!

To achieve it, you must aim 90 degree right of the fairway - and be able to carry you drive 240 yards over the water. See layout hole #10 diagram. The course is fun and friendly. Set in a valley, the fairways meandering through the hills and limestone cliffs.

You will traverse 3 distinct environments:- six holes in undulating hills, six holes on the level and six holes through landscape forest.

It is generally not humiliating or intimidating (depending on your temperament, of course!). Wayward shots are not too severely penalized; just stay away from the 'vertical-cliff' wall bunkers guarding strategic Greens.

Although high handicappers have the best round of their lives and keep coming back for more, the low handicap golfers still find the course quite a challenge.

Country Club Course

COUNTRY CLUB COURSE is a challenging 3375 yards (championship tee) par 36, 9-hole course, particularly suitable for the low handicap golfer. The picturesque beauty of the scenery and layout, somewhat softens the difficulty of the course. Watch out for those wayward shots; all are penalized either landing in water or out-of-bounds. However, with five tee-off boxes at each hole, you have a choice of making it less of an ordeal.

The distinct feature is water- water comes into play 90% of the time. Black swans glide amongst the water lilies taking very little heed of your slices.

Mission Hills Golf Club

Mission Hills might be by the sea but it is not a links course. It actually bears no similarity to other courses on the island but probably reflects Phuket's character most accurately. Nicklaus Design has added some distinguishing quirks, like the two greens that offer alternative finishes on Hole 18. Paspalum Sea Isle grasses add stunning colors and thrive in the salty soil.

Mission Hills has been carved from rubber plantations and sits among Phuket's environmentally-friendly mangroves. Great expanses of white sand beach bunkers have been added to contrast with the translucent blue hues of the ocean and the vibrant greens of the Sea Isle grassed fairways and putting surfaces. It is accurately described as a "piece of living art," the kind of pastiche that Vincent Van Goh would have created given half a chance and a love of a long drive.

The ocean views are delivered at a price: water comes in to play at seven holes. The sea breezes also are a regular feature. What time of day you choose to play can turn a following zephyr into a stiff headwind. While the spa awaits at the 19th hole, stress and tiredness are further banished with caddies and golf carts both being compulsory. It is not unknown for snacks to be delivered out on the course at lunchtime.

Location

Phuket's first 21st Century championship course lies on the scenic north-east coast. A nine-hole night golf course, due to open in early 2005, is also close by in the foothills. The courses are 10 minutes' drive from the airport and 30 minutes from Phuket City.

Phunaka Golf Course

A highlight of any visit to the idyllic istland of Phuket is a round at the Phunaka Golf course. This exceptional; floodlit 9-holes golf course, complete with driving range and golf academy present challenges and rewards for players all levels.

The location is simply stunning. Just a short drive from Phuket Town and the island's beaches, Phunaka Golf Crouse is set within area of the most beautifully lush and green landscaped grounds.

The course itself is ground breaking; the John Morrow designed golf course is great challenge for all levels of play. It provides a great learning experience for beginners and a chance to practice all shapes of shots for advanced players.

Open day and night, the course future par 3s ranging from 100 to 190 yards. But, with a short and a medium par 4 and a real par 5, player will find a use for every club in the bag.

Driving Range

The most spectacular 330 yards 56 bay driving range is designed to simulate real golf course play that covers everything from short chip to the full drive.

The short game area is ideal for practicing putting, chip and pitch shots from all possible slops and surfaces. Practice bankers with the pitching area promoting distance control from all possible lies.

Thai Muang Golf Club

Located in Thai Muang in Phang Nga province a few kilometres north of Phuket, Thai Muang Golf course is very different to those located in Phuket. The course tops 7000 yards off the back tees but its distinquishing features are more subtle than pure length.

Dye Design Inc. was given a tough mission when presented with the comparatively flat and unvaried coastal site. However, they answered the challenge with their usual flair and have magically produced a course which presents a captivating challenge for players of all abilities.

This 18 hole, par 72 course covers a total of 7,019 yards of a typical Dye Design character. Undulating fairways with acute mounding stretching over multi-level terrain lead you past deep sand bunkers, around wild waste areas and over a wonderful variety of water hazards including ponds, streams and miniature lagoons.

With spectacular views across the soft turquoise hues of the captivating Andaman Sea, the refreshing sea breezes and immaculate white sands coupled with the comfortable clubhouse and comprehensive facilities, the Thai Muang Golf Course is a rare gem in the golf destinations of Thailand. But it’s close since 2007 for renovation.

Tublamu Royal Navy Golf Course

This 18-hole , 6825 yard, par 72, course is located at the Royal Thai Navy Sport Development Centre, Thap Lamu, a couple of kilometers south of KhaoLak. (Thap Lamu is also the departure point for boats to the Similan islands).

The course is owned by the Royal Thai Navy and was upgraded to 18 holes during the summer of 2002, at which time it was opened up for the public.

This unique golf course is located and laid out at one of Khao Lak's most beautiful sandy bays, Son-Ngam Beach with a background of the tropical rain forest hills of Khao Lak. The rich variety of birds and the lush vegetation provide a natural and relaxing experience.
